Do little drops of pee leak when you sneeze? If the answer is yes, don’t be embarrassed you may simply need to do some work to strengthen your pelvic muscles in the form of Kegel exercises. Many factors can weaken your pelvic floor including weight gain, aging, childbirth even excessive coughing. So if you leak when you pee there’s hope!
The good news is Kegel exercises can be done anywhere anytime, no gym clothes required! Consistency is key. Doing Kegel exercises routinely can strengthen pelvic muscles over time. While you may not be carving out time during the day to physically leave your home or office to work up a pelvic sweat, you should try to make Kegel exercises a permanent part of your daily routine.
Don’t know how to do Kegel exercises? First, find your pelvic muscle. If you aren’t sure which one that is, stop mid stream when urinating, if you’re able to stop, congratulations! You just found your pelvic muscle. Next you’re going to squeeze and hold it for 5 seconds then relax for 10 seconds. Say it with me, Squeeze 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 relax 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10…. You get the idea. Repeat this 10 times if possible. Aim to do Kegel exercises 3 times a day, every day! Practice makes perfect they say, or at the very least perhaps less frequent urine leakage.
